It is even a visual novel as players get to learn about individual characters through motionless cutscenes with voice acting. Whatever the genre, Neon White has already taken the internet by storm with its addictive gameplay. Luckily, there are a handful of games that people should try if they are looking for more of this kind of experience.

9 Donut County

Neon White was made by a new development studio called Angel Matrix, but the lead for the game was none other than Ben Esposito. The name may sound familiar because Esposito is known for making another game with a very different vibe to it called Donut County.

This cute and funny game is about raccoons who have remote-controlled holes that they use to swallow up trash. However, one raccoon goes too far and traps himself and his friends in a hole where he must be confronted with the consequences of his actions. Donut County is much different from Neon White but is an easy sell if players want more of Esposito’s work.

8 Disc Room

Getting through a level as quickly as possible is at the core of Neon White, but if players want to try a game that involves trying to get the longest time possible? This is one of many elements incorporated into Disc Room, a game about avoiding death (most of the time).

Players are put on a spaceship where they will have to go through a series of rooms and complete various objectives. The primary goal for most of the rooms is to avoid dying for an extended period of time, with other objectives like dying to specific discs also in the game. There are even developer times to beat like there are in Neon White.

7 PogoChamp

Unique platformers that embrace time trial elements can get highly addicting. Another game to come out in 2022 to fall under this category is PogoChamp. This smaller indie game stars a test dummy on a pogo stick that players will play as, jumping precisely through each level.

How long each level takes to beat will be judged at the end, with scores ranging from zero to three stars. Players will need a specific number of stars to keep progressing through the game. It also has a leaderboard and, unlike Neon White, PogoChamp actually allows people to view replays of the best records. This can be helpful for those trying to learn specific strategies.

6 Paradise Killer

While not a major part of the gameplay, Neon White does have elements of a visual novel while also being a first-person game. Those who like the surreal unique nature of Neon White may enjoy the vibes of Paradise Killer, a murder investigation game.

As Lady Love Dies, players can navigate an open world while running into unique characters that can serve as both witnesses and suspects. While Paradise Killer isn’t as fast-paced as Neon White, it engages the player with strong personalities that make for a fun story to be in control of.

5 Clustertruck

What if there was the intense platforming of Neon White in a world where jumping on runaway trucks was just a normal thing to do? That is essentially the concept of Clustertruck. The game is all about jumping across trucks as they move in a specific direction.

Levels are designed around this ridiculous concept, including introducing aspects like antigravity and horrific obstacles such as giant hammers and boulders. Players can even unlock abilities such as a grappling hook or the ability to freeze time to help get faster times. And yes, these levels are also timed and have leaderboards.

4 Trials Fusion

Trying to get the best time in a platforming experience is at the core of Neon White, but a game that has always been known for its unique physics in a speedy format is Trials Fusion. One of the best in its series, Fusion embraces the uniqueness of riding a bike on a 2.5D plane.

The game has a plethora of different levels and environments that make for an interesting platforming experience, which includes a ton of community levels that have been built up over the years. There is also a multiplayer racing mode for those who want to put their skills to the test against competition in real-time.

3 Celeste

It is clear that it feels good to play a game like Neon White thanks to the variety of abilities the player has at their disposal to move around. Another platformer that feels good to play and also keeps track of how long it takes to beat is Celeste, a modern indie platformer with an old-school look.

The game is about a woman named Madeline who is on a mission to climb Celeste Mountain despite all the dangerous aura that the landmark gives off. Celeste focuses on Madeline overcoming outside obstacles and her own internal voice as she makes her way up challenging levels.

2 Mirror’s Edge

It’s good to look to the past to compare certain games, and with Neon White, the one game that is hard not to think about when running around on rooftops is Mirror’s Edge. The classic EA game from the late-2000s is all about moving quickly and avoiding enemies.

The protagonist of Mirror’s Edge is Faith Connors, whose job is to transport messages across the city while government agents attempt to hunt her down and stop her. The game has a lot of elements that are similar to Neon White such as moving quickly across platforms in first-person to becoming armed to take down bad guys in a quick manner.

1 Ghostrunner

When playing Neon White, running through levels and taking down enemies in one hit sounds like an absolute blast. Those looking to recapture that feeling after beating the game should probably check out Ghostrunner, which has a very similar gameplay loop based in a cyberpunk setting.

As Jack, the player is presented with levels where they will need to maneuver their way through while dealing with the threat of death after getting hit once. Luckily, the enemies can die just as quickly. The skillset provided to Jack in Ghostrunner includes jumping off of walls and using a grappling technique to pull himself to new platforms.

Neon White is now available on Windows and Nintendo Switch.
